Brainwavz S5 In Ear Headphones

Image1

Music is an important part of my life and at 45 years old I’ve been around the block with just about every genre of music.  While I’m not a huge fan of certain genres I am still eclectic; I can find a song in just about every one of them that I like.

Let me start this review with the fact that I am NOT a high end audiophile. I don’t own an oscilloscope. I’ve never paid more than $30 for a pair of headphones. Most of my music is encoded in 192kbps MP3. This puts me on the playing field with probably 90%+ of my audience. If it is “FLAC or nothing” for you or you would be insulted by paying less than $100 for headphones – this might not be your review.

I’m a regular guy that happens to love all sorts of music – but it isn’t my religion. This is the most expensive pair of headphones I’ve ever used (I was provided a sample by the company). Read more

RAVPower RP-PB19 Deluxe 15000mAh Portable Charger

Every year, our power needs grow. Tablets get bigger, phones get more needy. Portable power is pretty much a must for anyone travelling or for someone that works away from a power source all day.

The good news is – there are hundreds (if not THOUSANDS) of choices for portable external battery chargers. The bad news is – they are not created equally and may not reasonably meet the needs you bought them for.

When buying an external battery like the RAVPower 15000mAh PB-19(from now on, just PB-19; about $40 from Amazon), you need to consider four major things; how long it will last, how powerful is the output, what sort of quality of battery are you getting inside – and finally, how long will it take to recharge?

Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition (PC) – A First Look

deadristin1

Dead Rising 3 was originally released as an Xbox One exclusive, but now the PC version has shipped.  I picked it up on pre-order MONTHS ago for a really good price and it finally shipped yesterday.  I never played the Xbox One version, nor did I play Dead Rising 2.  However, I really enjoyed the original Dead Rising on Xbox (at least until the timed missions started). TaoTronics Elune TT-DL01 Dimmable LED Desk Lamp

The Elune LED Lamp

The Elune LED Lamp

Typically, I wouldn’t review a lamp.  Once again, my wife was the guilty party – wanting something to craft with next to her chair.

Whenever my wife goes all Zen over something, I start learning things.  Like artificial light is bad for cross stitching.

I will spare you the lecture on how similar colors are hard to discern in artificial light.  Instead, let’s take a look at the TaoTronics Elune TT-DL01 LED Lamp. Read more

Wii on Wii U: The LightGun Games

One of the greatest genres of gaming on the original Wii was the plethora of incredible lightgun style arcade shooters.  With the Wii U finally selling proper, it is time to continue our series on “Wii on Wii U” by giving you a look at all the fantastic lightgun games you can pick up for your Wii U to play in OG Wii mode.  The Wii’s sensor bar and on-screen reticle make in an obvious choice for lightgun games.  The Wii U follows in that tradition.

For the uninitiated, lightgun shooters are typically “on rails” arcade style shooters where you are taken through various scenes and environments automatically while trying to maximize your score and completion percentage.  In the arcade, these games included titles like Ghost Squad, Area 51, Target: Terror, CarnEVIL, Jurassic Park and dozens of others.

Note: At the end, I’ll include some other “gun games” that may be some fun shooters. Read more

ExpanDrive – Real Drive Letters for Cloud Storage

Enter the Cloud

Enter the Cloud

Cloud.  Today, it’s all about the cloud.  Store in the cloud, work in the cloud … live in the cloud.  Google even created ChromeOS to embrace the cloud – and we now have laptops that do practically nothing unless they are connected to said cloud.  While you could argue the merits of cloud computing all day and night – we’re only going to look at one aspect of it in this article.  Storage.

Cloud Storage

Cloud storage has been around for a very long time and there are more players in the space now than ever before.  There are venerable favorites like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Skydrive/OneDrive – and even more you haven’t heard of like Copy.com, Rackspace and Amazon S3.  With so many choices, you would think that competition would get the best of the market and drive prices down and features up, but oddly enough that hasn’t happened.  Sure, some cloud services have better features and cheaper solutions but there still isn’t really one to “rule them all”. Why you can’t play Wii games using Wii U’s Gamepad Controls

With Mario Kart 8 just one day away, it is likely that a lot of new blood is going to be getting into Wii U.  Once the thrill of racing has died down a bit, the budget conscious Wii U shopper may decide to look into buying up some super cheap-ass original Wii games.  After all, there are hundreds of titles available and there are some incredible games on the Wii (yes it is true).

In fact, we’ve written several articles on the best Wii games out there – and many of them can be had B2G1 on sale or under $20 or even under $10.  Check out Top 10 Wii Games You’ve Never Played and Ten More Great Wii Games You’ve Never Played and Ten Wii Game Guilty Pleasures to see what Wii games you should be shopping for.

Being the only next-gen console with backward compatibility, Wii U will happily play all original Wii games and you can even play them on the Wii U Gamepad (they look great on the smaller screen, by the way).

The caveat is that you must use original Wii controllers – you cannot use the Gamepad controllers.  Attempts to do so will earn you an on screen chastising.

Why on EARTH would Nintendo do this?  Surely it would be easy enough to just let the Wii games use the Gamepad??

Ten Reasons To Own The NVidia Shield

RAVPower BOLT 30W/6A 4-Port USB Charging Station

There are some days when my insatiable need for USB charging outlets surprises even me.  It seems every couple of weeks I have ANOTHER device I need to plug in to charge frequently; and the devices I do not need to charge frequently ALWAYS need to be charging when one of my critical devices is dead or dying for more power.

I installed a 6 port USB hub under the lip of my desk; hoping to cure my need for USB ports/plugs but I learned quickly that USB hubs just don’t deliver the juice fast enough to revitalize my high drain electronics.

A few months ago, I contacted RAVPower, the folks that provide us with a lot of hardware to review here about essentially a “power extension cord” for USB power.  Something with a lot of plugs with plenty of juice to push power to my greedy devices.  The apologetically said that they didn’t have anything like that yet, but they would let me know if they did in the future.

The future is now and they were happy to send me one for review. Read more

Fifteen Retail Games That Define Why You Should Own A Wii U Now

A lot of people are having issues justifying the purchase of a Nintendo Wii U.  Whatever your reasoning is behind it, I’m going to list fifteen retail games that demand you own a Wii U. What’s more?  It doesn’t include this year’s juggernaut titles Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. – these are games you can walk out of the store with TODAY – and many of them are already at great prices.

This is not a “Top 15” list – these are games hand picked by our staff as great experiences you can ONLY have on the Wii U; and all of these are retail SKUs (although some are available digitally as well).

Are you ready?  We’ll go in alphabetical order and provide you with good, solid representative assets so you can evaluate yourself! Read more
