When we first heard about the Wii U’s “game pad” there were those of us who were skeptical about it.  It seemed like a likely “dual screen” implementation for a console – in line with the success of the Nintendo DS product line.  The obvious uses were speculated about at great length.  Heck, I even wrote an article here about how a personal screen would trump motion controls.  I outlined some pretty killer uses for that second screen.

Nintendo chose to focus on the concept of “asymmetric game play” with regards to the second screen – pimping out their own products such as NintendoLand and New Super Mario Bros. U.  EA took a stab at asymmetric game play too via their Need for Speed Most Wanted (which is gorgeous and a load of fun if you don’t already have it).  It took a long time for true, successful asymmetric game play to come to fruition with UbiSoft’s Rayman Legends.  I can truly say that we now have a SKU for showing off just what “asymmetric game play” SHOULD be (sad it didn’t come from Nintendo). Ten Wii Guilty Pleasure Games Revealed


As the Wii ends its incredibly successful tenure as the best selling console, we have been throwing lists of great games you’ve never played.

Now? Ten great “guilty pleasure” games on the Wii. What is a “guilty pleasure”? Well, it is either a game that is just SO BAD that it’s good – or it is a game you would hate to admit to your friends and family that you actually play and enjoy.

As a follow-up to Shane’s great article “The Ten Greatest Wii Games You Never Played” here, I thought I’d add my own list of ten fantastic Wii games that somehow didn’t light up the sales charts.

As with Shane’s article, my hope is that this list will help you discover some of the more obscure, but excellent games available for the platform that are worthy of your attention. The games are listed in no particular order.

Top Ten Wii Games You Never Played


Wii gamers are a fickle bunch. As a majority, they appear to fall into three categories; first party IP whores (those that only play Nintendo-published games), established IP whores (those that only play games with a recognizable name – meaning sequels or ports) and those that are non-gamers brought to gaming by the Wii (they play Wii Sports with family on holidays, use the Wii Fit balance board at least every other day and actually use the Everyone Votes channel – but very little else).

Unfortunately, some of the best games on the Wii do not fall into any of these three categories but rather into another genre I like to call “original IPs”. Read more
